Erasmus Program is also for teachers and staff exchanges
March 2025 at the FM International Department
March was a month full of interesting and significant activities for our International Department. In addition to participating in a series of fairs and the Blended Intensive Program (BIP), we were actively involved in the mobility of our colleagues through the outgoings program. At the Faculty of Management, UK (FM UK), we hosted colleagues from many countries and partner institutions, including:
- Husain Dawood and Shanmugan Joghee from Skyline University College - School of Computing, United Arab Emirates, who officially handed over the evaluation of our student Tereza Pellerová, who was the first to study in this destination last semester.
- Marie Hesková from the University of European and Regional Studies in České Budějovice, who shared her knowledge of modern marketing tools.
- Andrei Jean Vasille and Catalin Popescu from the Petroleum Gas University of Ploiesti, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Bucharest, Romania, who visited Dr. Kajanová.
- Daniela Dzienmniak Pulina from Katowice, Poland, a BIP program participant, and Marie Červenková from Masaryk University in Brno, also a BIP program participant.
- French colleagues teaching in the French program: Pierre Barroy from Amiens, Tourya Guaaybess from Nancy, Jerome Hubler from Nancy, Vincente Fromentin from Nancy, and Guliame Dezobry from Amiens. These colleagues contributed to the development of our relationships with French universities.
Dr. Peter Balco and Frédéric Dellaneuville organized the BIP titled Management of Energy Challenges of Today's Society: Roles and Responsibilities of Individual Stakeholders in Today's and Future Metropolitan Environments. The event was attended by 21 international participants and 7 educators. The partner universities were:
- Université Jules Verne, Amiens, France
- Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach, Poland
- Centre Européen Universitaire de Nancy, Université de Lorraine, France
- Université Masaryk de Brno, Czech Republic
Additionally, our teachers and students participated in the PIB in Madeira, in Funchal, organized by the Global Entrepreneur Network and Education for Strategy and Innovative Solutions (GENESIS), where 2 teachers and 6 students from various countries participated, along with Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia and University of Gdansk, Poland.
Our colleague from the International Department, Romana Farská, participated in the International Week in Rovaniemi, Finland, on the topic Sustainable Development and Responsibility, organized by a partner university.
All of these activities contribute to vibrant relationships and the internationalization that our faculty truly lives by. These events are also documented by poignant photographs, which capture not only the events themselves but also the friendships and collaborations that developed during these international meetings.
More information to Management of Energy Challenges of Today's Society will be provided in an upcoming extra article, which will be published soon.
January 2025
Even in January, we are sending colleagues to interesting destinations, as demonstrated by the post below. We would also like to remind you that the additional STA call for teaching mobility (until 31.01.) for the summer semester 2024 is still open. Colleagues, get inspired and travel!
The Erasmus+ Staff Mobility program, hosted by the Polytechnic University of Leiria from January 13th to 17th, 2025, proved to be an exceptional platform for professional development and international exchange. Central to the program's success was a series of expertly curated workshops that addressed critical topics at the intersection of education, technology, and societal values.
The program commenced with the workshop “AI and Cybersecurity in Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities,” led by Professor Mário Antunes. This session provided participants with an in-depth analysis of the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education while emphasizing the importance of robust cybersecurity frameworks. The discussion underscored both the potential and the risks associated with adopting AI technologies in academic environments.
A second highlight was the workshop “Harnessing AI and Process Mining: Streamlining Bureaucratic Processes for Enhanced Efficiency,” facilitated by Pro-President Professor Ricardo Martinho. This session explored innovative applications of AI and process mining to optimize administrative workflows. Participants gained actionable insights into enhancing operational efficiency and reducing procedural bottlenecks, with a focus on practical implementation.
In “Artificial Intelligence, EU Values, and Identity,” Professor Mário Barata provided a thought-provoking exploration of the ethical and cultural dimensions of AI. This workshop emphasized the alignment of technological innovation with European values, fostering a balanced approach that prioritizes societal impact alongside technical advancements.
The final session, “Data Analysis – Using Artificial Intelligence Methods to Extract Knowledge from Your Data,” delivered by Professor Carlos Grilo, equipped participants with advanced methodologies for data analysis. This hands-on workshop offered practical tools for extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets, a skill of growing importance in both academic and professional settings.
The workshops exemplified the program’s commitment to excellence, offering a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications. Participants benefited from an interdisciplinary approach, enhancing their ability to implement innovative solutions within their institutions. The collaborative and engaging atmosphere encouraged the exchange of experiences and fostered international partnerships.

October 2024 at the International Department
In October 2024, we had the honor of welcoming guest lecturers from Israel, Taiwan, and the Czech Republic at the Faculty of Management, UK. These guests enriched our students with their experiences and expert lectures.
Israel
• Bethe Schoenfeld - Western Galilee College
• Ron Eichel - Western Galilee College
Taiwan
• National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) - Assistant Professor Hsu-Chan Kuo
From the Czech Republic, we welcomed colleagues from Charles University (Dr. Daniel Opelik, Dr. Jan Šíma, Dr. Josef Voráček), specifically from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. They lectured at our Department of Information Management and Business Systems on topics such as public sports economics, sports management, strategic management in sports, as well as social media and marketing in the field of sports. This collaboration provided a great opportunity for our students to gain international expertise from a different perspective.
A colleague from the International Department, Romana Farská from FM UK, is currently hosting at a partner university in Oviedo. At two contracted campuses, she is developing further cooperation opportunities, specifically at the Faculty of Business, Tourism, and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences.
Ferko Olšavský, returned from Erasmus+ teacher mobility in his own words:
The unknown Kaunas in Lithuania would probably be the most accurate description of the city for Slovaks. Last week, thanks to an Erasmus+ teaching stay, I had the opportunity to get to know the local Kaunas University of Technology and its Faculty of Economics and Business. Although it is only a city of 300,000, it offers its residents and visitors many cultural and natural stops worth visiting: the M.K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art, many other galleries, almost always open churches, and 2 kilometers long central arcade full of shops, a botanical garden, a zoo and forest parks. All accessible by public transport with a really small entrance fee. Next year the university celebrates its 100th anniversary, for which they are already preparing accordingly. I recommend everyone to get to know this destination of friendly people, amber and rich history.

September and October 2024
Dr. Božena Freund, a visiting lecturer from the Faculty of Management and Social Communication at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, visited the Department of Management at FM UK. Her visit took place under the institutional agreement between UK and Jagiellonian University. She delivered a lecture to students on the topic of "Management and Leadership." Her presence was highly beneficial for students and also opened opportunities for further collaboration between the two universities.
During September 2024, we sent our colleagues on Erasmus mobility programs, including Staff Week and language courses, to Lithuania, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, and Spain. English and Spanish language courses organized by SpainBcn-Programs in Barcelona remain highly popular. Besides Barcelona, this program now offers new attractive destinations such as Tarragona, Alcúdia - Mallorca, and plans are underway for Malaga. Their personal experiences and photographic documentation can serve as inspiration for others interested in similar opportunities.
Miloš Mrva by his own words about STT mobility in Klaipeda:
In the beautiful Lithuanian coastal city of Klaipeda, I participated in the international week, which was number 21 and was called "CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION". There were approx. 40 participants from more than 10 countries, not only from Europe. It was a great combination of education, networking, exchange of experience and getting to know the local culture - I highly recommend it
